OCHOA WINS CIF CHAMPIONSHIP AND LEADS SEVEN MUSTANGS TO MASTERS WITH HIM
Mustang Heavy Weight, Abe Ochoa, has been impressive all season but he was extra special this past weekend at the CIF Southern Section Central Division Championships. Abe won all five of his matches by pin and, even more impressive is the fact that all those pins came in the first round of each match. His performance not only earned him his second consecutive CIF Individual Championship, Ochoa was also named the Upper Weight MVP of the tournament and the Mustangs as a team won the CIF Runner-up spot.
The Mustangs were very impressive, moving a total of eight wrestlers on as CIF Masters Qualifiers. Along with Ochoa’s Championship, Jacob Roehl (126) and Andrew Gomez (138) finished second. Roehl had a hard fought 5-4 final match that ended with a last second questionable call by the officials. Andrew Gomez finished second as he was not able to wrestle in the championship match due to a shoulder injury sustained in the semi-final match. The remaining Mustang place winners are, third place winner Anthony Garcia (145), fourth place winners Willie Fuher (106) and Ryan Jalabi (182), and fifth place winners Max Matles (120) and Dillon Herrera (160).
