Mustangs sweep Valencia High School in Empire League Dual

Last week was a great week for the Mustangs. On Thursday night in our second Empire League Dual against Valencia High School at home in the YLHS gym, the Mustangs had a clean sweep with all levels winning their respective team duals. The Frosh-Soph Mustangs won 42-28, the JV won 57-12 and the Varsity ended the evening with a double digit victory.

Over the weekend a number of Varsity wrestlers competed in a fourteen (14) team tournament at Esperanza High School. The Mustangs ended the day with ten place winners. Killian Gale (138) and Nathan Emry (171) both finished in the 2nd place spot. Anthony Garcia and Alex Orozco finished 5th with Brendan Steinman, Christian Lopez, Jacob Roehl, Chris Tang, Ryan Jalabi and Garett Turner finishing 7th in their respective weight classes.

The Frosh-Soph team hosted sixteen teams at the second Mustang Invitational of the season and again, posted some impressive results. Dillon Herrera (170) finished with a championship, Steve Hill and Koorous Vargha were 3rd place winners, Chris Mehdizadeh, Colin Romero, Abram Cortes, Matthew Lugo and Alex Tang finished in 5th place spot and Christopher Lugo and Steve Chu round out the medalists with 7th place finishes.

The action continues this Thursday night for all levels as we hit the road and travel to Cypress High School for our third League Dual match.

The following day (Friday), some of the Varsity team will be traveling to Five Counties, which is held at Fountain Valley High School, and is one of the elite tournaments in all of California.

On Saturday, a portion of the Varsity team will be wrestling in the Troy Warrior Classic at Troy High School and the Frosh-Soph and Junior Varsity will be wresting in the Canyon Duals at Canyon High School.

Finally, once again, the Mustang family volunteers were AWESOME while hosting the second Mustang Invitational. It is so impressive to see volunteers come together from all three levels and dig in to get the job done.
