Matles and Gomez Laguna Hills High School Invitational Champions

Last week was a successful one for the wrestling team. Mid-week found the Mustangs hosting a varsity Century League dual against El Dorado High School. After a nice senior night ceremony to pay tribute the Mustang seniors, the Mustangs ended the evening with a strong team dual win.

On Saturday, the Varsity Mustangs headed to Laguna Hills High School to compete in the 44 team LHHS Invitational tournament. As a team, the Mustangs finished 4th despite giving up multiple weight classes due to CIF match count limitations. The Mustangs had six place winners led by Max Matles and Andrew Gomez who were both tournament champions in their respective weight classes. Jacob Roehl placed 3rd, Willie Fuher and Dillon Herrera placed 5th and freshman Tyler Tagayun was impressive, placing 7th in his first varsity tournament.

At the same time, the Frosh/Soph Mustangs competed in the Six Planets Invitational at Valencia High School and also found great success. Tournament champions were Malik Isterabadi, Chris Lugo, and Alex Tang. Joining the champions as place winners were Matt Lugo, Abram Cortez and Sean Donovan in 4th place and Vince Scigliano in 5th place.
