Andrew Gomez and Abe Ochoa to wrestle in The O.C. All-Star Classic

On Friday and Saturday, the Varsity Mustangs sent ten wrestlers to the Five Counties tournament at Fountain Valley High School. Five Counties is known as the “Beast of the West” and attracts some of the best schools from Southern California and the state. In arguably the toughest tournament in all of California and, in many cases a preview of what’s to come in the California State tournament, this year’s field of 63 teams didn’t disappoint. Andrew Gomez (138) and Abe Ochoa (285) both placed 3rd in very tough 64 man brackets.

Andrew Gomez and Abe Ochoa will be wrestling a single match each in The O.C. All-Star Classic tomorrow (Monday 1/19/15) at Marina High School. This event will place the #1 ranked wrestler in Orange County against the #2 wrestler in the county. Both Gomez and Ochoa are ranked #1 in their respective weight classes. Come on out and support your Mustangs at 6:00 PM.

On Saturday, the Mustang Varsity also competed at Troy High School in the Troy Invitational. After wrestling some very tough matches at Five Counties on Friday, Daniel Souza and Ryan Jalabi placed 3rd and Steve Hill placed 4th. Also placing 4th in his first varsity tournament was sophomore, Malik Isterabadi (106).

At the same time, the Frosh/Soph headed to Villa Park High School to compete in the Villa Park Duals. The Mustangs wrestled very strong and did well finishing 4th as a team in a tough 16 team tournament.
